Metropolitan PGA Annnounces Chris Kenney as Next President
November 23rd 2020 - The Metropolitan PGA Fall Meeting was held virtually as a conclusion of the 2020 season on November 5th. The digital structure of the meeting was an unfortunate necessity of the current public health climate, but the attendance of 250+ participants for a virtual meeting could be a sign of the times. We were fortunate to have an address from PGA of America CEO, Seth Waugh to kick off the meeting and to provide our section professionals with answers to their questions and concerns for the future. The meeting also included an election of our new Board of Directors and Nominating Committee. The Metropolitan Section is excited to announce our new President, Chris Kenney, Head Professional at the Patterson Club. Kenney will be replacing outgoing President Carl Alexander of the Golf Club of Purchase.

Metropolitan Section Executive Director, Jeff Voorheis, shared his appreciation for the two years Alexander dedicated to the section: "It is not possible to say enough about our outgoing President, Carl Alexander. Carl has been a leader of the Metropolitan PGA Section for many years. Despite the completion of his term as President, we hope to keep Carl very involved into the future. Carl's leadership was consistent throughout the fun celebration that was the 2019 PGA Championship at Bethpage Black and with his steady guidance through the unprecedented and difficult year that was 2020. On behalf of our officers, our Board, section members and staff, we cannot express the gratitude we have for his commitment and dedication to the section for the past two years."

The Section is excited to have Chris Kenney, former Treasurer, in the driver's seat for the next two years.

Newly elected to the Executive Committee is Director of Instruction at Pine Ridge Golf Club, Rich Jones, who will be taking over as Second Vice President. Jones had the recent honor of receiving the National PGA Player Development Award for his dedication to the community and to junior golfers. John Hobbins of Greenside Golf Academy has also been added to the Board of Directors. The Metropolitan Section would like to thank outgoing Board Member, Gary Murphy, Head Professional at Innis Arden Golf Club. His leadership and dedication to the Section over the past 3 years, specifically to his duties as Assistant's Association liaison, were incomparable. "I am confident that Murph isn't finished with his service to the Section, but we recognize him as this term comes to a close" says Voorheis.

The Section looks forward to continuing its path to bettering golf in our community, on and off the course, for our Professionals and their members.
